The Aleipata Islands are located at the eastern part of Upolu, in the destrict of  Aleipata. The islands Fanuatapu, Nuutele and Nuulua are uninhabitated, only on the island Namua is a little resort for tourists. Matai Yeti takes care of his guests and offers three meals a day. You stay in beach-fales on a tropical island, about 1 kilometer off the shore from the main-island of Upolu.

Crossing to Namua takes place with a little motor-boat from the village of Satitoa. The landing stage is situated about 100 meters south of the church of Satitoa, where you can see a little rack next to the water. - There you can see a long pole with a red flag on top. - You have to wave with this pole until you are seen from the island......no joke ! As there is no shop on Namua island I would recommend to buy your beer on the mainland.

Namua Island is an extinct volcano, which exterior sunk beyond the reef the interior of the island is situated within the coral-reef. - Excellent facilities for swimming and snorkeling. At low tide you can walk around the island in about one hour. - Trekking-sandals with anti-skid sole are recommended, as the rocks are very slippery when wet..

From Namua you can also book boat-excursions by motor-boat or kajak to the other islands.

Fanuatapu Island is located about 1,5 km east of Namua. As the waves break on both sides of the island, it's sometimes difficult to land there by boat. There are some steep stairs to the top of the island where you can see a automatic light-house. Containerships from New Zealand pass by the island within short distance.

The island of Nuutele is the biggest of the Aleipata Islands and is also an extinct volkano, which is rising about 250 meters above the sea. This island  is situated about 2 kilometers outside the reef and only accessible by boat or kajak from the westside. You find a abandoned fale there, which can be used as shelter against the rain or to stay there overnight. Behind this fale you find a steep trail to the crater-rim. - Be careful as there might be falling rocks !
At  south-east side of Nuutele you can see the inner side of the crater. A long sandy beach streches for about 800 meters. Landing on that beach, however, is very dangerous because of the high swell of the sea and the coral reef in front of the beach. - In the inside of the crater you still can see the fundaments of a forma Lepra-station.

The island of Nuulua  is smaller than Nuutele and is located about 1 kilometer east of Nuutele. This island is very hard to access. Strong currents, high waves and steep rocks make it very difficult to land on Nuulua. Landing with a motor-boat is not  possible, maybe with the sea-kajak on calm days. - Namua is a seabird sanctuary where numerous seabirds breed.
